GETTYSBURG, Penn. —The Gettysburg Foundation Board of Directors announced Jaunary 4, a leadership change for the Gettysburg Foundation. At the start of the new year, Wayne E. Motts assumed an important new position as the Gettysburg Foundation’s president emeritus and historian. In this new role, Motts will continue representing the Foundation through numerous significant educational and interpretive initiatives. He will also be, in many ways, the “historical face” of the Foundation. “It has truly been an honor and privilege to have led the Gettysburg Foundation,” said Motts. “I thank the Foundation

Board, staff, volunteers, and our National Park Service partner for the support they have given me during my tenure as president/ CEO. I look forward to my new role and spending more time on the battlefield, the place I love the most.” A long-time resident of Adams County, Penn., Motts has been a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park for 36 years. David G. Malgee began serving as the Gettysburg Foundation interim president and CEO. Malgee is a current Foundation Board member (2018-present) and benefactor who has made

many valuable contributions to the Foundation. He previously held this interim position in 2020-21. The Foundation Board is confident in Malgee’s ability and grateful he has agreed to inspire and lead the Foundation once again. “I am excited about continuing to work with Wayne as he brings history alive here in Gettysburg to a heightened degree,” said Malgee. “Wayne is a premier historian, researcher, and storyteller, and we look forward to utilizing his talents and skills in his new role. I know the Foundation values Wayne’s many contributions and looks forward to the opportunities his new role will bring to him and the organization.” Malgee will focus on the Gettysburg Foundation Board’s immediate objectives while providing time for the Board to manage the process of seeking the next president/ CEO. While Malgee said he will not be a candidate for the role permanently, he recognizes that selecting the next president/ CEO may take some time.
