The Lincoln Group of New York Confers its “Award of Achievement”

NEW YORK, N.Y.—The Lincoln Group of New York, an organization dedicated to studying the life and times of Abraham Lincoln, has conferred its 2017 Award of Achievement on author Sidney Blumenthal for his book Wrestling With His Angel: The Political Life of Abraham Lincoln Vol. II, 1849–1856. The announcement was made by John Bodnar, new President of The Lincoln Group of New York. The Lincoln Group of New York presents the award annually to the individual or organization in America that has done the most to encourage the study and appreciation of Abraham Lincoln. By winning the award, Mr. Blumenthal joins a distinguished group of past recipients that includes Eric Foner, Harold Holzer, and screenwriter Tony Kushner. The award was conferred in a special ceremony at the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College, Manhattan on Feb. 15, 2018. In recognizing the importance of this work, Paula Hopewell, chair of the Award Committee, stated that, “Treated with depth and richness, Blumenthal describes a complex web of personalities, political forces, and personal and historic events that shaped Lincoln’s character and prepared him for the national stage.” The Lincoln Group of New York’s jury for this award was comprised of Paula Hopewell, Tom Dames, and Joseph Truglio.
