Second Annual Preservation Ball

STAUNTON, VA. — The Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dancers hosted their 2nd Annual Hallowed Ground Preservation Ball on January 21 in Staunton, Virginia. Joining or renewing membership in the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation (SVBF) was the price of admission to this Ball and 10 new members were recruited. Guests came from as far away as Richmond, Va., and Martinsburg, W.V. Keven Walker, executive director of the SVBF gave introductory remarks and was joined on the dance floor by his young daughter, Zoe. Excellent dance music was provided by the Shenandoah
Valley Minstrels, led by Robert Reedy. Kathy Reedy set an enticing refreshment table. Many members of the SVCWEDancers attended and helped guide the less-experienced dancers through the steps of dances such as Soldier’s Joy, Duke of Kent’s Waltz, and the Virginia Reel. The SVCWEDancers, led by Tom and Lesley Mack, is an all-volunteer, non-profit group whose main goal is to raise money for battlefield preservation by teaching and enjoying early American dance. In 2016
the SVCWEDancers donated $4,000 to the SVBF. Since forming in 2012, the dance group has donated over $26,000 to a variety of historically-minded groups.
