June-July, Pennsylvania. Music Series

The Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association will present a live music series every Friday evening in June and July at the Daniel Lady Farm with one exception, June 30th, during the annual battlefield reenactment weekend. Converts of mainly 19th-century selections will be held from 7-9 p.m. between the house and barn on the property. $5 for adults, children 12 and under are free. Every Friday at 7:30 p.m., $20.00 per ticket. Billy Finch Productions presents “Gettysburg the Musical” at the ‘New’ Best Western Theatre located at 301 Steinwehr Ave., Gettysburg, PA 17325. History comes alive at the Gettysburg Heritage Center. Several reenactor groups, both Union and Confederate, have been contracted for the program. “We have infantry units, cavalry, some civilians, medical groups, and more,” comments, Ruth Shipley, Living History Coordinator, and herself a living historian. “In a digital age, where people are looking to learn from experiences, this is a perfect opportunity. The 154th Gettysburg Battle Anniversary Reenactment will be held at 969 Pumping Station Road at the Gettysburg Movie Site overlooking the Round Tops and historic Sachs Mill Covered Bridge adjoining Gettysburg National Military Park. July 4, Virginia. Independence Day

On Tuesday, July 4th, come for an Independence Day tribute. See an artillery demonstration, color guard, and bugling demonstration. 26th Annual Civil War Days at Lakewood Forest Preserve. “A More Sharp & Obstinate Affair”—Shenandoah University’s McCormick Civil War Institute will commemorate the 153rd Anniversary of the Battle of Cool Spring with a series of programs – including walking tours, lectures, and living history programs with Prof. Jonathan Noyalas, Shannon Moeck, Nicholas Picerno, and living historians portraying the 116th Ohio Infantry. July 22-23. Virginia. The Aftermath of First Manassas Weekend

10-4 & 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sat. 10–3 Sun. $5 per person during the day, children under 6 free. $10 per person for evening tours, not recommended for children under 12, those who donate receive ½ off admission. After the Battle of First Manassas, Ben Lomond served as a Confederate field hospital to treat the wounded. Visit Ben Lomond close to the 156th anniversary of the battle and learn from historians and Civil War reenactors how soldiers were treated during the Civil War and how the conditions of these hospitals differ from the hospitals we have today. The weekend will consist of demonstrations, tours, children’s activities, and a special evening program recreating the hospital on Saturday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Red Cross Bloodmobile will be on site. “Flowers to Pharmaceuticals—Civil War Medicinal Gardens” The National Museum of Civil War Medicine will present museum volunteer Greg Susla, who will discuss his work o the newly re-established medicinal herb garden at the Pry House He will note the medicinal applications of the various plants grown in the garden and their uses during the 19th century. “Clara Barton and the Missing Soldiers Office” Clara Barton became renowned for her work as a nurse on battlefields like Antietam. She used her experience near the frontlines to ope the “Missing Soldiers Office” after the Civil War. Amelia Grabowski will discuss how Clara found 22,000 missing Union soldiers. Battle of Kettle Run Anniversary Weekend. 11–4, Free, $5 suggested donation. Join Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park staff and volunteers on the 155th anniversary of Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson’s capture of Bristoe Station and the Battle of Kettle Run—the opening round of what would become the Second Battle of Manassas. This August 27th battle, while small, was bloody and took a heavy toll on the regiments that fought there. Visit the park on the actual anniversary for specialized in-time walking tours that will make this forgotten battle come to life in vivid detail. Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park. Come join the 3rd annual School of the Soldier Event at Bennett Place State Historic Site. Watch as soldiers perform basic drill, cook and sleep while in the field.
