Louisville Confederate Monument Erected At Brandenburg, Ky.

Louisville Kentucky’s Confederate Monument has been safely dismantled and transported down river to Brandenburg, Ky. The monument arrived in Brandenburg on Nov. 28. During the following week, a base to support the relocated monument was constructed in Brandenburg Riverfront Park next to the city’s Ohio River public landing located at the foot of Main Street. During the first week of December, the monument was carefully reassembled upon its new base. The reconstructed monument now looks down upon the spot where General John Hunt Morgan’s Confederate raiders crossed the Ohio River from Kentucky to Indiana during their great raid in July 1863. The monument is no longer confined to a small grass island in the center of a busy street with no nearby parking. Now located in a large public park with onsite parking, visitation has increased. A visitor can now safely walk around the monument and view it from all perspectives. Formal unveiling of the relocated Louisville Confederate monument will take place sometime this spring.
