Paging Through — September 2016

We are looking forward to cooler weather and so are the wool clothed reenactors. As the summer winds down and school starts back into full swing, the events for Civil War enthusiast come alive. Please check the events calendar to see what is happening around you. Civil War News has a new Book Review Editor, Dr. Stephen Davis. With his lifetime of experience Civil War News has gained a valuable asset with having Dr. Davis on our team. Please continue to submit articles and photographs to Civil War News. Although we can’t fit everyone into the paper we try very hard to do so. As we travel the east coast attending events and historic sites we find that there is an endless supply of topics, battlefields, museums and events to cover. But, we cannot be everywhere at once so let us know if you have an idea, suggestion or will be attending something of interest. In this issue we’ve introduced a new column Inspection, ARMS! by Tim Prince. Tim is a well known firearms expert and very approachable so if you go to a Civil War show he’ll most certainly be there. Some say our hobby is dying off but with the large turnouts at seminars, bus tours, surge in roundtable interest and social media sites I feel that even more people are interested in history. As an example the Atlanta Civil War Round Table sells out every event with a waiting list. This is encouraging to say the least. Correction: Book review of Virginia Iliad, a book by H. V. Traywick Jr., in the August, 2016 issue of Civil War News was by Timothy Orr, not Thomas A. Horrocks.
