An Update From The Watchdog While the 150th events are over and many of us are becoming less active in (re)enactments there appears to still be an interest in historical interpretation and living history. Some people have taken larger steps away from active participation in the field. Craig L. Barry and I are among that group, but we maintain an interest in continuing our research and study of the period. As the last of The Watchdog crew, we have not abandoned the Watchdog’s mission of education and preservation. Craig’s articles are still published in Civil War News, I give presentations and we both keep on top of new information in regard to our personal areas of interest in 19thcentury material and social culture. By selling a small array of books (Craig’s The Civil War Musket, both volumes of his The Unfinished Fight and Brad Graham’s Antietam Effect) we continue to raise a small amount of funds that are distributed annually to the Save Historic Antietam Foundation (SHAF), the Civil War Trust and the Stones River National Battlefield Park. The 2015 donation was $2,700. While some aspects of (re)enacting are played out for us, we continue to encourage new generations of enthusiasts to do it with an historical correct attitude.
