The Lincoln Group Of New York Confers Its ‘Award of Achievement’

NEW YORK, N.Y. (April 12, 2016)—The Lincoln Group of New York, an organization dedicated to studying the life and times of Abraham Lincoln, has conferred its 2015 Award of Achievement to Co-Winner Ford’s Theatre for their historic commemoration, Ford’s 150: Remembering the Lincoln Assassination. (The other co-winner, Jonathan D. Sarna and Benjamin Shappel for Lincoln and the Jews received their Award in February) The announcement was made by Steven R. Koppelman, President of The Lincoln Group of New York. The Lincoln Group of New York presents the award annually to the individual or organization in America that has done the most to encourage the study and appreciation of Abraham Lincoln. By winning the award, Ford’s Theatre continues as part of a distinguished group of past recipients that includes Pulitzer Prize winner Eric Foner, Harold Holzer, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

The award was conferred at a special ceremony in Manhattan on April 12, 2016. In recognizing the significance of this work, Richard Sloan of the Award Committee focused on the emotional impact of all of the monumental exhibits, and programming, stating that, “The dedicated staff of Ford’s Theatre deserves to be recognized for this masterfully planned and executed series of events. It will remain with me forever.” The Lincoln Group of New York’s jury for this award was comprised of John Bodnar, Frank McKenna, and Richard Sloan.
