United Kingdom CWRT Donates $500 To SHAF

LONDON, England — ACWRTUK announces $500 gift to Save Historic Antietam Foundation Many Civil War Round Tables around the U.S. regularly donate to preservation causes on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line. What may not be well know is that the American Civil War Round Table of the United Kingdom (ACWRTUK) is also a regular contributor. Based in London, their most recent project was to raise funds for the Save Historic Antietam Foundation. SHAF Director Tom Clemens approached the ACWRTUK for funds late in 2015, and they duly obliged after some fundraising activities. Greg Bayne, Editor of Crossfire, the magazine for the ACWRTUK said, “We have an open door policy for preservation funding. Any member of our RT, or an associated group like SHAF, can submit a proposal for our RT to raise $250 or $500 for their project. It goes through a small committee and if approved, we will do our best to raise the funds in double quick time. We are delighted to be working with Tom Clemens and SHAF to do our bit.” Greg added further, “Our RT was establish in 1953, and preservation has always been high on our agenda. Despite the distance from the U.K. to the U.S. many of our members are regular visitors and often report back the warm welcome that they receive in and around the battlefield regions. We are happy to make this contribution.” The ACWRTUK has contributed to many projects including CWT preservation of Lee’s HQ, Raymond Battlefield cannons, the BGES, Longstreet’s Home, Edinburg Mill and Rosecrans statue to name a few of the recent ones. They also contribute to U.K. projects and recently gave funds to two memorial plaques commemorating British subjects who fought in the war, one is displayed in Liverpool and the other in Pamplin Park Richmond. The ACWTUK Funds are earmarked for the ongoing demolition costs of modern buildings in the East Wood of the Antietam Battlefield.
