DESCRIPTION: Mike Marcela presented the United States Christian Commission. It was organized in November 1861 as a program of the YMCA. Close to 5,000 volunteers went out into the field to minister to the soldiers in camps and hospitals, as well as helping in hospitals, giving out food and supplies, delivering mail and attending to soldiers' needs.
